H (orizon) House
Located in a private housing development of beach houses 100 kilometers south of Lima, the project has the dual condition of adapting to a set of norms established by the development, and to frame the domestic sphere in a period of time where its characteristics are in a transition towards redefinition. On the one hand, the development establishes one floor of height (3m) and the color white as predominant expression. On the other, the notion of the domestic is losing tangibility as time passes, new family nuclei emerge, the notion of private and the public becomes blurred, the incorporation of technology influences the modes of interaction and the activities inside the house stop concentrating on reproductive work. This presents the challenge of establishing a new spatial-functional logic.
The architecture of the project is reduced to the minimum and acts as a framework (or diagram) where its function is limited to being a background for the various –almost unpredictable now- domestic activities. The architecture concentrates on four cores containing the mechanisms of daily life (as Reyner Banham once criticized), establishing partial divisions and creating spatial intervals. The aim is to generate non-specific spaces and minimize the "functional" to nuclei that contain the kitchen, service spaces, storage and telecommunications. The spatial diagram of this duality becomes an ordering model, without setting conventional thresholds between the public and the private, or a single logic of circulation within the enclosure.
Everything is contained and related by a continuous roof, which establishes the uniqueness of the house. Its continuous reading generates a new domestic horizon, trying to unify the different domains within the dwelling whose relations are changing and could be enhanced by its abstraction.
