Reflective Apartment Milano
This is a project for the restoration and renovation of an apartment on the top two floors of an elegant 19th century apartment building. The client was connected to the contemporary art world, and the project took this into account, making sure that the minute details and “coups-de-théâtre” coexisted harmoniously with the Raumgeist of the apartment building.
In the Piazza Cadorna area in the heart of Milan’s sophisticated middle-class society, an 8-storey 19th century apartment block was renovated and redesigned with great care, in a project that investigated and managed to achieve that difficult balance between contemporary spaces and respect for a building’s past. The restoration of the most cherished parts, the marble, the mouldings and the decorations inherited from the old building found a way to legitimately coexist with the contemporary choices of the project’s numerous details. The importance placed on the noble vintage elements, such as the brass, the wood panelling and the large mirrors, reformulated adopting new codes and creative solutions, bridges the gap between the old and the new in a well-structured dialogue. The result is a reflective and sophisticated home suspended in an indefinable period in time, somewhere between the past and the future.
