The Earth is architecture

The Cité de l’Architecture & du Patrimoine (Architecture and Heritage Centre) in Paris has invited TVK and the Dutch agency RAAAF to open the Plateforme de la Création Architecturale as curators of a new programme in the renovated Pavillon d’About. TVK's plan for the platform's first season is The Earth is Architecture, a multifaceted, open-ended programme – an installation, master classes, guests, readings, screenings – aimed at investigating architecture as a new environment. The point of focus will be the half-pipe – deliberately chosen for its radical hyperbolic shape – as an image not only of our time, but also of the transformation our planet continues to undergo. As both hyperbola and hyperbole, it simultaneously represents the exponential growth of the population of the world and, by extension, of our cities, together with the radical changes that have come to architecture, building and the living environment on a planet moving from a parallel to an orthogonal condition. A film will be shown illustrating different types of architecture and the way they have evolved in response to this change of condition.
