Magdalena House
Magdalena House is a project for a single person; the design makes use of a concrete structure composed of two walls and a vaulted ceiling --pierced by a central patio of triple height that acts as a greenhouse.
Located in the city of Uruapan, in the Magdalena district, the house is projected on a long terrain, which has a big tree in the back and two small buildings at its sides.
The client wanted a loft-like environment for one person. The project takes this as a basis and spaces that are connected visually are designed. In addition, light is introduced through large blacksmith windows that take advantage of the view of the mango tree.
The design makes use of a single concrete structure with wooden and steel elements to give the appearance of a timeless industrial space.
The program of the house is generated around two green spaces: the backyard with the existing tree and a central patio of triple height similar to a greenhouse.
The central patio introduces a special experience in the way in which a house is lived. On the ground floor, it works as the access to the house, ferns and shade plants will grow in that area; on the level of the mezzanine, is the access to the studio, here, a bridge passes between tree trunks and palm trees; and finally, on level one, it is one of the views of the bedroom, from here you will see the tops of the palm trees and the light will enter scattered through the leaves.
