Novocomum Apartment
This is the first rationalist building erected in Como. It originated as a completion to a large building in eclectic style built around mid-twenties. The young architect Guiseppe Terragni, after presenting for approval a rather traditionalist Project, built – under cover of the building site – an utterly different house, which caused quite s scandal in town. At fist, it was suggested to demolish the building, which was however saved by the verdict of a special commission set up by the municipality.
The huge building is characterized by the relation between the long front, marked by the horizontal openings of the windows, balconies, and edges, obtained in the lower section by way of a cylindrical glass wall.
