LOFT IN BARCELONA
Renovation of a duplex in Barcelona.
As it is the home of one of the interior designers we had the opportunity to play and experiment with colours, textures and volumes, with a low investment.
The main project brief was to increase and make the most of the incoming natural light. Since the flat is located in a basement, there was a lack of light, in addition, there were other factors that didn’t help to have a bright apartment.
For the main window, we needed a material that would allow the access of as much light as possible and that offered privacy as well. To achieve that we chose cobbles, or pane block, a material that was fashionable during the 70s. This material offers solution to both issues as it has high thermal and acoustic resistance and suited very well the aesthetic of the apartment. This window is now a source of light that brings life and links all the rooms, including the bedrooms located upstairs connected thanks to the double height of the living room.
Beneath the window you can find the living room on top of a platform that creates a cosy area, it’s the area of the flat where we also find the study.
The low budget of this project determined the choice of materials; we used white shinny plastic laminant for the furniture including the kitchen, the corners are made of MDF so it draws lines that highlight the shapes, the continual pavement is built with microcement in earth colour and the MDF naturally varnished has been used for the plastic laminant and the study’s furniture. For the bedrooms’ pavement we used Bolon, a vinyl fabric that brings warmth to the space and for the furniture we used the shinny plastic laminant that brings light. The touch of colour is found in the dining table with pool table green and the fluorescent coloured niche which creates a sensation of infinite thanks to its lighting; we can find a virgin in it which is the kitsch touch of the apartment.
The entrance hall is panelled of perforated MDF, integrating the entrance door and creating a surface where you can hang souvenirs.
