Observatory
LIGA is an architectural gallery based in Mexico City where its activities happen simultaneously in two spaces; on a 16 square meters space on the ground floor of a building (contained by walls, windows, and a roof), and on the 11th floor, at an open terrace contained by an immeasurable space, an invisible atmosphere: the stellar vault.
We propose an observatory experienced from the ground floor. A chamber that can contain the landscape: the mountains, the sky, and the city projected into a tiny brick space. A dome that is reflected in itself through a floor of water, forming a sphere. The terrestrial sphere in a condensed space. A moment of contemplation between the self and cosmos.
Because observing is seeing and imagining at the same time. It is a continuous moment of understanding, description, representation, projection. It is to contemplate from what we can see, to get involved in the environment, so we can dimension ourselves in the metaphysical space. Today there is little time and little space to observe. Every second is saturated with empty images and symbols. With every image, or every product, what we seek to quench is only expressed as anxiety. There is much less time to just be. To grow we have to dig to the bottom of the observation, therefore questioning, and that from the bserved we can build logical, ethical, and naturally beautiful responses.
To talk about architecture, we must first understand where we are standing so we can start recognizing our insignificance in space and time in the universe. Then we can start making architecture with commitment and humility. While we exist, let the architecture be the best tool to understand that the journey of our steps will be finite, but the trace of our imaginative observation will run through the physical walls to glimpse the endless building of new cycles
