Tra la Chiesa e il Campo
"Tra la Chiesa e il Campo" is a temporary installation on the Tolentini church's staircase, with the intention of reconsidering the public value of this place.
The Tolentini’s staircase is often considered a place for standing and resting.
People who sit spontaneously on its steps can easily understand the beauty of the location, but they probably forget the fact the stairs itself it’s a path to reach an holy place, using it as a common seating spot and ignoring its real nature.
We believe the way to give to the stairs its dignity back could be showing it as the very protagonist of the scene, through setting up a volume around it.
We designed a wooden structure above the steps, a vestibule who can define the space of the staircase, protect by a blank veil, giving the feeling to look up to the sky and not directly through it.
The installation will radically change the way we use and consider this “in-between” space: people who usually pass through the campo and the church or sit on the steps will find instead a meditative spot, who suggests quiet and reflection, and then, forgetting the place as it was, they will stop by with a different approach, trying to understand and reconsider its meaning.
