Research Center School of Architecture, UP
The challenge of responding to new demands for workshops and cultural events that can take place at the same time, in spaces capable of accommodating a few dozen people, together with various rooms to host working and research groups, were the motto for the creation of a project that completes the FAUP’s existing building programme.
The Architecture Research Center is located at the eastern limit of the current Faculty of Architecture University of Porto’s premises. The program asked for careful reflection since the site is heavily dominated by road infrastructure and other Faculties buildings, whose unity and resolution has yet been left unsolved.
In addition to the requirements mentioned, it was interesting to understand how the new construction could dialogue with the Casa do Gólgota and the Pavilion Carlos Ramos of the Architect Álvaro Siza - two buildings from distinct periods of the history of architecture.
The proposal of a longitudinal pavilion, implemented parallel to the wall and the existing buildings, intends to create a visual relation for those who are working inside these buildings and at the same time its mirrored material intends to reflect the nature that have remained around them.
