Folded Paper Dome
Conscious surface, occurred in 14th Feb. 2009, is the second stage presentation of a three stage experimental form finding by “AEW, the Art of Engineering Workshop”
In this exhibition many exciting and yet stable and load-bearing forms are generated via a single folded cardboard surface through the simple folding patterns.
The Dome: the big cardboard dome is only an example of the many possibilities of the folded forms- “the conscious surface”. With 5.5 meter diameter, the dome is made up of 5*16=80 pieces of folded cardboards temporarily held together by means of paper clips. It can get assembled through 2 hours and disassembled in about 6 minutes. some of modules can be detached for catching light and creating airflow.
All cardboards were folded by the folding table, as shown in pictures, that was created for this project and all cutting lines were cut by hand.
