An oxymoron juxtaposes elements that appear to be contradictory. It seemed emblematic to us to describe the peculiarities of the project: a place where natural and artificial, interior and exterior meld, a place of individual meditation or to change ideas: a living room for all the citizens. The shape of the building itself is extremely representative of the spirit of the intervention: the big cover evokes a "familiar singularity" and establishes a strong figure in the skyline of the City of Suncheon. The volume, made of polycarbonate translucent panels, supported by a wooden structure, is a reinterpretation of the area's traditional gabled roof buildings. The cheap material we use for the roofing turns into a precious membrane in a simple but highly tailored arrangement. The building is definitely not a box, it looks more like a giant house, a temple, it is a diaphanous structure, floating like a paper lantern, a welcoming mystery. The Suncheon Art Platform will define a new character and identity of the Old City. A singular but familiar presence in the old city skyline.
