G House
The house is designed to suit the lifestyle of the clients. They have an extensive collection of items acquired over generations, household items bought from their native village, containers made from brass, copper, Pots, vessels, knickknacks etc.
The clients also have a good understanding of gardening and growing plants etc.
One of the initial requests they had was the use of locally available "Cuddapah stone" and “wood” as the main materials for the house.
The above elements were given utmost emphasis in the design of the house.
To create privacy from the neighbors, a traditional courtyard layout was chosen. All the rooms open onto the courtyard. Every room is interconnected through sliding doors (when open) all the rooms merge into a single space. Only narrow vertical windows open to the outside, maintaining privacy from the neighbors.
Eventually plants will grow in the courtyard and terraces making the entire house green and lively.
A limited material palette (Cuddapah & wood) along with Kalai finish (cement render) was chosen to gels perfectly with the extensive collection of brass and antique items giving a calm atmospheric presence in the house.
