CT* | E13 RUNNER UP
“Connective tissue (CT) is one of the four types of biological tissues that supports, connects, or separates different types of tissues and organs in the body.”
The aim of our project is to revitalise Bamberg East by reinforcing its identity and connecting it to the rest of the city, not only in a physical way.
The CT* wants to be a new center of attraction for the people who live there, for the urban
community and for the international tourists.
OUR project not only takes into account the goals set by this competition, but also the UN post-2015 development agenda. The international development agenda puts forward an intrinsically urban goal. SDG 11 states: “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.
In accordance with this objective, our project prioritises pedestrians over cars by establishing some car-free zones and proposing tramway lines connecting Largarde-Kaserne to the whole area of the project as well as to the downtown.
We considered the three areas of the project as parts of the same body, moving togheter in a common direction. Like every body part they have different functions and abilities but they are strongly linked.
ZONE A - THE CONNECTIVE BOUNDERY
The area next to the railway is dominated by a multifunctional structure that is at the same time a noise barrier, a connection to the downtown, a landmark able to attract the tourists arrived at the train station and a meeting point between the dwellers from the Eastern and the
Western part of the city
ZONE B - THE DOMESTIC CORE
This project proposes to regenerate the area by densifyng and creating a new green path and green semi-public spaces by opening up to the public the several private green spaces placed within the buildings.
ZONE C - THE CULTURAL CORE
The third area is characterised by its cultural vocation. We sew up the urban tissue of the area entering new students or young couples houses .The center of actraction of the area is the Contemporary Music Center, directly connected with the Bamberg Concert Hall.
