Project winner of the contest "Percorsi Diocesani"
Project winner of the national contest by invitation for the design of the new church "Redemptoris Mater" of Cinisi (PA), Italy
The competition by invitation for the design of the new parish Redemptoris Mater "church of Cinisi (PA) is promoted by the National Service for the 'building of worship of the CEI. The initiative, on a trial, refers to the construction of 3 new parish complexes, one in the north, one in the center and one in the south of Italy, and includes a special assistance from the National Service for the building of worship at three Diocese choices. The initiative, which aims at high quality levels, will play exemplary national: from feasibility study ', the work of community outreach, at the invitation of the design competition, the award of the work in producing the film.
The study had already Kuadra 'participated in the open competition for the design of the new church of San Nicolo' a Trebbia in 2011, when he had passed the first stage and was ranked 2nd in the second phase, for this was chosen by the Diocese of Monreale to participate in this national competition for the new building of worship, in which exceeded the first phase was awarded the win.
The parish complex "Redemptoris Mater" is a new "landmark" that fits in a dialogue with the surrounding area. The project seeks to respond to the demands of the population, translating needs into architectural forms. The particular form of the complex (building and surrounding land) will help to give an identity to the net community parish.
The project started with the careful analysis of the existing situation and the Preliminary Document of Design, whose needs are being met in our project, namely:
- Searching for high quality 'aesthetic and structural engineering with the adoption of more' modern technology in the field;
- Maximum attention to functional needs. The function has a key role and not secondary to the aesthetic appearance;
- Strict respect of the zoning regulations and safety (use internal and external, structural, geological, fire, engineering);
- Search for integrated building systems aimed at achieving a good degree of sustainability 'environmental (lights and air conditioning - to be analyzed carefully in the process of final design reports cost / benefit);
- Adoption of materials and systems that facilitate easy and cost-effective management and maintenance of the building (Easy access to the technological changes and maintenance - Capital equipment without special maintenance);
- Adoption of advanced systems tecnolgici designed to encourage energy savings in the year (air conditioning and solar energy);
- Functional research oriented to the maximum satisfaction of the liturgical requirements. The space-church will 'consists of a monolith clad in local stone material flanked by a bell tower isolated, which seem' out of the ground, almost to join with the sky, evoking a contemporary ancient towers on the surrounding territory. The symbolic use of stone, as well as recalling the history of the place evokes the scriptures and with various known references.
The architectural composition also makes use of the use of the measured light, which enhances the shapes and colors of buildings. Some environments, seemingly underground have punctures roof garden leading overhead light inside, while the nave of the church, thanks to an offset of the hedge, is lit by a cascade of light from above enriched, in the area of the crucifix, from holes passers in the stonework from which a colored light and soft, arranged in the shape of a cross.
The space of the assembly opens east to the churchyard by a system of openings articulated and designed to ensure a strong link inside / outside and to the south where a large window overlooking the "Garden of Olives. In this element strongly evocative and dramatic, internal and external "melt" together so that the stones of the garden come within the space ecclesiastical and the glass that separates them is actually set in the rock.
A wall covered with tuff encloses the garden and conveys the look of the faithful to the sky and mountain Longa becoming the natural scenery as a backdrop to the assembly and to the baptismal font. Of great interest is also the source of water flowing from the garden, it runs until food symbolically the baptismal font.
The project area has shaped pressochèe 'trapezoid. The new buildings cleanly divide the sacred space from other activities, go to the background. The main entrance is from the district Pino Peri, Whence the churchyard. Here it was repositioned the current Via Crucis facing the church and placed along a walkway surrounded by parkland. The parking for the faithful is placed on the side, filtered by a green screen, so you do not visually interfere with the main entrance and the churchyard. On the back develops the private part in which are housed the weekday chapel (with separate entrance), the nursery, the rectory, the parish hall and classrooms catechetical each overlooking a green area for the game for the boys.
The project involves the construction into two lots of surgery. The first will be 'built the new church maintaining a buffer zone of the existing buildings to allow the safe use of the same. Only at the end of the first batch will proceed 'to the demolition of existing buildings, with the exception of the parsonage, resulting in the construction of additional spaces.
The shape-space floor plan of the new volumes, creates an architectural firm, surrounded by greenery, from which stands in a central position and the dominant ecclesiastical complex. This, however, does not inhibit flexibility 'and the functionality' of the other complementary spaces inside and outside.
All paths that wind inside and outside the church have been designed to be easily accessible also by the disabled. The traffic flow, deliberately, were clearly separated from pedestrian areas from traffic flow so that the people can come together and use the common areas outside safely.
The church will be 'made with seven-bearing concrete, with a strong mass of thermal inertia, insulated externally with "coat" and equipped with a facade cladding installed with a ventilated façade technology. In fact, a thin layer of fiber-reinforced local stone will be 'applied on an appropriate aluminum structure forming a real outer skin / ventilated facade. With regard to control temperature and humidity ', the buildings will take advantage of features bioclimatic acts to reduce energy consumption. The openings were appropriately spread in order to reduce the direct exposure to sunlight. Sara 'respected aeroilluminante ratio of 1/40, because the buildings will be equipped with integral air system parts.
The particular shape of the roof (made of steel beams), will allow the creation of openings in the top 'of the building, favoring a natural chimney effect, powered by external vents located at the bottom on the walls to the north. Coverage, potra 'altresi allow the eventual installation of solar panels, in a tight angle.
The temperature and humidity 'internal, as well as the type of the casing, will be regulated with a plant termoventilazione that provide' the heating and integral parts of indoor air (in accordance with the standards UNI10339).
Considering the situation limit winter, where it is assumed a daytime or evening outside temperature of about 12 °, the input of hot air in the vicinity 'and during the hours of usability', will allow 'to reach the ideal temperature. Simultaneously with the heating, it will be 'also reciprocated the indoor air, with partial supply of outdoor air and heat recovery of the exhaust air.
In summer, the unit 'heater fan fetch' directly outside air from areas north (air more 'fresh) and insufflera' inside through ducts in the floor by turning the chimney effect. The warm air inside will be pushed upwards where motorized openings will allow the natural flow. The technical host the united 'heater fan, will be' housed in the basement.
