Depandance Energana
Energana house is a small building located in the Vinodol Riviera. It was built in the 70s as the main provider of energy, clean water and heating for its motherhouse. The little building of less than 30m2 had one unique room as shelter for the heating system, with an underneath water tank for rainwater harvesting and a roof to host solar panels for electricity and hot water.
Unfortunately, the mechanical installations have never been completed and soon the building became a shelter for tools. When it has been opted for reconstruction and adaptation of the construction for short-term occupancy, it was decided to retain the original function – a place to generate energy – although the focus moved from the house to its occupants. In fact, the Energana house has been rebuilt as a tiny holistic alcove for recharging your body’s energy, your mind and your soul.
The intervention preserved external walls and the lower slab. The roof has been totally rebuilt with a lower inclination that does not interfere with the panoramic view of the main house. All partitions have been demolished and rebuilt following the new design. The interior is a unique space with separated bathroom.
Over the bathroom and the entrance a low gallery hosts a double bed and storage units. A handmade net separates the gallery from the lower living space providing safety and giving a touch of local fishermen’s tradition. Materials have been left raw where possible, like the 4m long kitchen and bathroom countertop, made of polished concrete. Movable untreated wooden elements are almost the only furniture available.
The room opens to a big terrace, which offers a spectacular view over the Vinodol Channel. The result is an essential and flexible interior space adaptable to multiple occasions, from holiday rentals for four people, to big dinner parties, or a cosy space for daily relax.
