Landscapes of resilience: plots agricultural and urban design
PLOTS AGRICULTURAL AND URBAN DESIGN
The project proposal is measured with a fragment of the agricultural landscape that still remains on the vast plateau near the town of Vibo Valentia, in the knowledge to share, especially in Calabria, the ground and the potential that it still expressed in terms of production, aesthetic and figurative . In this sense the center of Ionadi is thought in relation to the chaotic conurbation in place, through an idea of sustainability and new way of living that focuses on the nature, quality and specificity of the place.
The plateau, until a few years ago marked only by the trace of the airfield, the national road and the design of the fields, now lives in a state of fragmentation and loss of unity.
The reasoning project takes place through the overlapping of the different components in the area, think in their expressive power and identity, along with the ability to establish itself as a unitary system: the existing building, the new expansion, the collective services, accessibility, commercial systems, patterns of water and agricultural areas. These become priority in reconsidering the agricultural landscape in relation to the changing socio-economic and urban planning, the ecological dimension and sustainable as testing of project ideas that record and put in shape the new multifunctional dimension of agriculture, expression of a change in the concept of rurality in SOIL which assumes a strategic role in the landscape as an active process.
In this new dimension, in fact, the landscape can become a reward for agriculture, reversing the process that historically has seen the city spread to the countryside attacking it, by overcoming the dialectical relationship between urban space, suburban and agricultural land. The plots of land, together with light morphological changes represent for the project structuring a moment of drawing more general on which to interact with all the existing elements, taken into account: the nuclei are built, the church square, the playground, the track cycling, water systems, shopping malls. The design of nature, characterized by land plots, tree-lined by the parties, by empty, is hired as a palimpsest in which the existing project is integrated in new signs configuring new life cycles for agriculture that increases the spectrum of action by the production of -healthy material goods, timber, fiber, materials for industry - those assets - landscape, biodiversity, safeguarding hydrogeological, maintenance of the territory - until the creation of service-oriented social welfare. Vocation more traditional production of food alongside new and innovative activities (power generation, natural fibers and polymers, rural and cultural tourism, social potential) that configure multifaceted rural yet to investigate the implications of spatial and formal.
This vision provides an opportunity to shape new landscapes through a pattern-urban environment in which continuous agricultural areas are integrated and not consumed in the process of transformation of the city, no longer conceived as spaces expansion pending real estate transactions, but as specific fields of a new creative energy. The path exceeds the contrast between the city, too often identified only with the old towns, and the countryside populated, now complementary entities increasingly interdependent, in a strategy that offers a new look for that immense mass that we continue to call the suburbs or cities widespread, where a different idea and value of agricultural land may stimulate to establish a new concept of "urbanity" (A. Berque, 1997). And 'in this summary, the strategy proposed by the group winner of the competition, in which insert new management actions on the level of the expansion and completion of the building no longer thought of as pure subtraction of agricultural areas in a logical expansion of shapeless old settlement systems, unable to consolidate itself as a real urban environments.
