“Double Loop” is a new symbolic architecture in Taichung, that gains strenght deeply in the Taiwan traditions of signes; two big circolar mass volumetries keep in contact making a single object, with a well defined functional organization.
The building is a flowing architecture system where nature meets urban, where the museum is located in a protected area and the library is rising up with the willingness to embrace Taichung.
“Double loop” is a landmark with a familiar aesthetics, easily recognizable by everybody as a positive symbol of cultural prosperity for the future.
The plot area is the green head of Taichung Gateway park, inthere the project plans to reorganize a social cultural fabric; the area will be integrated into daily dynamics where people can enjoy the spaces located in the building or walking on the roof.
“Double Loop” provides an urban scale development, involving the streets life, and a territorial scale development based on vertical flowing green spaces.The programmatic division of the library is based on a progressive circular floor system: The library archive at one of the lower levels is in contact with cargo traffic storage and provides books to the upper levels. The technical pool at the centre of the first underground floor belongs to the green technology system of the project and main pedestrians accesses are at the ground floor. The different categories of reader service at the different floors are connected with self-study areas and served by technical services.
The museum is mainly developed to the underground levels. Permanent exhibitions take place in the spaces along the main course and temporary exhibition area is situated at the lower level.The learning area, the conference hall and the administration area are served by an independent entrance at the ground level.
