Conversion of a derelict petrol station in King’s Cross has created a new external public events space and diner-style restaurant overlooking the Regent’s Canal. The intervention of a 200m-long, fibre-glass screen corresponding to the existing structures on the site, provides a protective enclosure of the new functions from the busy arterial roads, as well as a strong new identity for the site by day and by night.
Shrimpy’s is located within The Filling Station project at King’s Cross. Its sixty-seat diner, bar and kitchen has been designed to fit within the brick-built kiosk of the disused petrol station for a two-year lifespan. The interior takes advantage of revealing the existing building’s structure and finishes and adds bespoke furniture and fittings designed with restaurateurs, Bistrotheque. Murals are by artist Donald Urquhart.
