A New Tiananmen Square
NO-STOP MEETING SQUARE - An International Public Space
In recent years the Beijing government unified the communist authoritarianism and the market economy resulting in a "non-democratic capitalism" that works with the complicity of many Western Companies and the direction of the Communist Party.
This form of government works also thanks to a superimposed regime of control on media, communications, space and a lacking of human rights protection.
To keep this system working Chinese government is responsible of several crimes towards its own citizens and the over ten-year single Party usually manipulate information to keep up a fake comforting stability by hiding its impressive flaws characterized by lawlessness, abuses, bullying and corruption.
China is the world's first emerging Country for dimension of economy, people and urbanization, a giant of finance and industry destined to become, if it is not already, the world leader. It is fundamental to bring to light what really happens within its territory and reveal the fragility of a Nation, rich in history, tradition and culture, that is ready to implement a social reform and rebuild a welfare state, but that is still totally static in the repressive practices of its government.
Taking into account this condition, the "No-stop Meeting" project sees the use of Tiananmen Square, known for the 1989 student protests, as a permanently assigned media square specifically designed for demonstrations, with an international status of extraterritoriality. A public space liberated from Chinese jurisdiction and conceived to give international visibility to protests from Chineses and people from all over the world.
In this way the square becomes a highly specialized structure to host meetings within an intense schedule of events, one succeeding the other without stop. This is made possible by a re-design of the ground according to the most advanced know-how in safety and organization of large mass events and the installation of reversible architectures with a variety of services and rooms for press from all over the world ready to communicate the day's events. Free wi-fi connection with no restrictions to information, websites and social networks is finally provided to the users and any kind of peaceful activity is allowed and encouraged.
The square is 880 meters wide from north to south and 500 from east to west and is the largest public square in the world, with its 440,000 square meters. This surface, starting from the large ring road that surrounds it, will be divided according to an orthogonal grid that represents its infrastructure. It is a network of roads of 1st, 2nd and 3rd level that outline lawned squared areas equipped with all necessary facilities to the participants, including technological and orientation towers with mega screens. Each of these areas can accommodate up to 5,000 people standing, 2,500 people sleeping in tents and any kind of stage for events and shows.
