Tales of Klaksvik
The proposal focuses on developing and emphasizing Klaksvik´s unique identity and history. To create a city that with its structure, architecture and ambiance proudly tells about its history, location, culture and inhabitants.
We wish to make Klaksviks´ City center a vibrant culture and activity center. Two elements bind the existing northern and southern parts together and reinforce downtown as the city's overall generator for urban life and community.
The Loop develops and strengthens the town's main commercial and cultural context. By integrating the existing commercial zones with existing neighborhood we create a complete trading course that binds the city together.
The Cultural connection links the city's existing with new cultural events and activities in a continuous sequence from the south side fjord through town towards the harbor in the north.
The proposal consists of two new neighborhoods, each with their own building typologies and relationships with existing town and coastline. They are low rise neighborhoods with 2-5 stories houses with pitched roof as a theme to merge with the existing town and the land´s building inheritance.
The cultural city center has a dense and diverse building structure to shield against wind and create micro-climatic, shared spaces for different outdoor activities. The harbor islands on the west side of the fjord consist of two housing areas with mixed use and green semi-private zones.
