Komazawa House
The sunlight to the site was blocked by the neighboring houses and the houses standing on the opposite side of the road had wide openings facing the site. Big windows were not appropriate to this project.
So we decided to make three skylights to let the light in, and these skylights became to characterize the whole house.
On the third floor, the skylights are enclosed like perpendicular tubes and the light comes through a couple of openings of the tubes. These tubes loosely divide the floor into several areas that are supposed to be used by children.
The second floor remains one room. And the light from the skylights make certain corners for dining space and living space.
On the first floor, the light from the skylight is not strong but the bright colored wall of the bedroom emphasizes the gradation of the light.
