Six of a Kind
In contrast to the decidedly urban quality of a massive urban block, this
proposal attempts to subdi-vide the block into smaller scaled objects.
This scale reduction is useful in periphery urban condi-tions where the
standard block typology begins to transform into lower density types of
urbanism/ suburbanism (such as individual villas). The scheme con-
tinues to demarcate the spatial figure of the block to the surroundings,
however from the interior the block is in fact 6 small blocks organized
on the plot to provide maximum solar access, views, and private park-
ing. The parking is solved in the perimeter block, divided into small
units, this makes it possible to use the inside of the block as a garden
for the inhabitants of the block. This exercise in medium density urban
living is only possible through optimization of the construction grid to
6.6m. This basic unit is ideal for this particular site dimension because
it allows for maximum flexibility in unit organization and sizes within
the block configuration. Finally, the façade is designed to provide
maximum individual expression for the residents while maintaining a
uniform overall appearance.
