House in Sunami
The site is located in a residential area on a hill, facing the panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea.
With this beautiful scenery I wanted to make a space that could enjoy the confortable feeling of outside.
A courtyard has been set on the roadside to keep privacy and spread the living space to the backside mountains view.
The vaulted roof cover all the inside space and the outside courtyard, creating semi-outdoor rooms that can be used all year round.
Usually to hold this kind of shell construction it is necessary to use structural elements with high thickness against the thrust of the arch-roof.
This possibility was avoided thanks to an accurate control of the layout of partition walls.
In this way all central pillars have a very slender section that allows them to be perceived in continuity with the sash.
This house is free from arbitrary decisions and it is an example of a simple construction, but at the same time it owns a rich sequence of spaces and a comforting relationship with the surrounding landscape.
