GIORGIO MURATORE

VERY NICE

From the Publisher

“In a few years’ time, perhaps, people will forget the many small and very small figures who are now considered great or very great, and will understand that the city is made up of houses and houses are made up of things, houses and things that are all alike yet all different, and that we live in and around these houses and these things, all in the same way, yet all with our own personal baggage of “forms” and “memories”, needs and aspirations, images and objects, events great and small, personal stories, knick-knacks and dreams. All unimportant things, symbols, objects, little urban and domestic monuments, which bring to life houses and cities that others would prefer to be ugly, gloomy, and lifeless, like the pages of fashion magazines or fashionable architecture magazines.

Why overcrowd our spaces with the cold noisiness of inane brands and gestures just to respond like unthinking consumers to the calls of a market where stupidity merges with arrogance and goods with ideas?

Why not “resist”, or at least try to resist, now that everything seems easy to obtain, the crude attractions that assail us with their overdose of stupid frills that seem to have lost forever their form and their value, and consequently their meaning and their memory”.
