LD Apartment
LD is an apartment overlooking the Tiber river, in Rome. The project aims to push the boundaries of flexibility and movement within a space, exploring the diverse possibilities it can offer.
Within a 70m2 space, this exceptional living space seamlessly merges the living room, kitchen, and a bedroom, creating a unified and spacious ambiance. The intentional design choices contribute to an adaptable environment, transforming the apartment into a dynamic, expansive domain that evolves throughout the day, and the years.
At the heart of this spatial narrative is a commanding architectural feature—the concrete beam, as a horizontal and opaque element. In deliberate contrast with the beam a new vertical element, the steel pillar, rises boldly, devoid of practical function but standing as a pure architectural statement. This steel sentinel becomes the new gravitational center in the living room, a single room now ideally divided into four rooms (the dining area, the sofa area, the kitchen, the corridor).
The integration of wood, concrete, and steel creates a captivating interplay of textures and tones, blending the warmth of wood with the coolness of concrete and the sleek allure of steel.
In this way, the project initiates a dialogue between raw materials, clean geometries and old furniture.
Amidst this architectural composition, the southern wall stands dressed in pristine white, serving as a minimalist canvas. This design choice not only accentuates the bohemian influence but also allows the natural spectacle and sunlight to take precedence, fostering a deep connection with nature and simplicity.
Conversely, the northern wall becomes a symphony of materials, blending the earthy warmth of wood with the timeless charm of terracotta. This backdrop celebrates the daily rituals of life, creating a harmonious environment that resonates with both functionality and aesthetics.
