ETSAE Cartagena Competition
The ETSAE Cartagena is a small School of Architecture looking for an extension and re-organization of its facilities on Campus. The project “PRO-THESIS for the ETSAE” aims to complete, sew and articulate several pre-existing buildings by means of a customized architectural prosthesis.
The pre-existing buildings (The old School of Architecture and the workshops unit) are refurbished with simplicity, according to their most essential features. As for the extension, it completes and serves these pre-existing pieces, providing them with new spaces for relation and connection as well as producing a new set of controlled exterior spaces. In the case of the old School of architecture, the central courtyard is improved and one extra floor is added on top. In the case of the workshops unit, an extension towards the gardens is proposed that produces a new articulated façade in front of this great public space. In between both buildings, there is another addition attached to the library building. The result is an integrated ensemble that responds to all particular conditions while it provides a new unity to the Campus.
