Venice is an archetypal example of a city in which architecture and nature has synergised. This project aims to learn from Venice and open up the opportunity to establish a “new” island and create communities with new institutions. This project inspires to create a special place for university students and locals alike. The size, complexity and scale of the project is akin to designing a fragment of the city, so we were urbanistically informed by the rich and diverse Venetian civic spaces and building typologies. The memory of the place, evoking feelings of the past by strategically turning what was once a solid building into a void, where social interaction flourishes.
