LEÓN EXHIBITION CENTER
The León Congress and Exhibition Centre stands on the grounds of the old Santa Elvira Sugar Mill. It involves the transformation of the main building of the old sugar factory into the Congress centre and the creation of a new exhibition hall located towards its east side. A restored smaller existing building (Petit Palais or Palacín) located towards the west side of the Congress Centre, houses a series of ancillary uses to the programme (restaurants, small format exhibitions and offices).
The project is integrated into the whole urban reflection of León for the 21st century. Together with the railway urban integration, derived from the arrival of the high speed train in 2014, the Congress Centre is one of the key urban interventions for the development of the city. The whole operation implies at the same time the recovery of the so-called neighborhood of La Vega and its definitive integration in the city of León. The ensemble of buildings is equipped with a Conference Center with an auditorium for 1200 people, meeting rooms, exhibition halls, offices, etc. and an Exhibition Hall with a total exhibition area of 10,000 m2, as well as the Petit Palais building.
The Congress Centre comes from the conversion and adaptation of the main building of the old Santa Elvira sugar factory, in contrast, the Exhibition Hall proposes an avant-garde architecture of steel and glass, an integrator of renewable energy production solutions and energy control systems.
At the present, only the Exhibition Hall, the Ancillary Building and part of the square are actually built.
