The project is part of the currently biggest housing development in Kassel on the area of the former state school for firefighters. Besides flats, the program for the area also includes terraced houses, including the ten units on Anna-Seghers-Straße.
Special characteristics of the compact, urban house type are the elevated plinth with a raised ground floor, 3,15 m high living space and the integrated garage.
The punctuated facades are structured by vertical window formats in a regular rhythm. Jambs, balustrades and cornices are accentuated with elements of natural stone, and the street facade is covered in brickwork.
Staggered roof terraces on the penthouse level and leaps in height following the natural slope of the terrain give the block a more playful note.
The end-terrace houses feature bay windows on their respective north and south facade.
All houses have in common a tripartite concrete pergola, functioning as canopy and balcony outside the kitchen and offering a buffer zone between public and private space. Additionally it serves as trestle for climbing plants.
