The brief was to create a modern family home from two semi-detached Victorian villas for a couple with two young children. The project required extensive refurbishment of both properties, whilst connecting them on every level.
Significant structural work was required to reconfigure the existing floor plans, and the design and installation of a new cantilevered Portland stone staircase which formed a dramatic central entrance.
The main focus of the house was the lower ground floor where the existing rooms were opened up to their maximum potential to create a modern living space for the family that opened onto the garden, with easy access between inside and outside.
The raised ground floor was organised as a series of formal reception rooms, each with a separate identity incorporating a dining room, drawing room and lounge together with a wood panelled library. Two staircases, one in each villa and including the new central stone stair provided circulation to the upper floors including the master suite and bedrooms.
AMA worked closely with the client on the interior design. Contemporary furniture combined with found objects, luxury lighting and wallpaper brought originality and individuality to this project and enabled the client to personalise their home.
