A THEATRE IN BLURING | A URBAN CIRCUS
Transparency implies more than an optical characteristic, it implies a spatial order. It means a simultaneous perception of different spatial locations. Space not only recedes but fluctuates in a continuous activity.

In the “Theatre of the World”, Aldo Rossi defines the functions in a rigid spatial sequence: the stage in the middle, then the auditorium, the sea and the city. While the Dialectical Theatre breaks the classical rules, having the actors and the audience inverting their roles and interacting also with the surroundings.
The Urban Circus is designed by a tent, shaped by four peaks, which refers to the circus’ traditions and to the movable medieval theatre. It covers the area of the Public Activity Centre, providing a completely free theatrical space that can host various events at the ground floor, using the existing tiers as a background. The stairs together with the flat surface could be transformed into an arena or a proscenium theatre or even an open stage, depending on the play.
The tent can be also used as a floating walkable area where people interact with Hsinchu City.
The porosity of the suggested transparent vinyl fabric enables the connections between the different levels and creates a “festival” atmosphere with different performances at the same time. The whole structure is easy to be set or dismantled, giving the impression of a theatre that is “here today and gone tomorrow”.
