La civiltà del marmo, EERA Contest 2016
Minimum Bathroom: and functionality and aesthetics 6 sqm.
Contest banished from EERA to promote innovative use of marbles and stones in interior architecture.
The project is characterized by the simplicity of the construction system that is based on the assembly of marble slabs and painted metal frames. The goal is to emphasize the beauty of the material, without overloading of processes and treatments.
Interlocking, overlapping, metal frames were designed to enhance the quality of the material and at the same time to make easy their use in any kind of context.
Moncervetto marble (warm shades of gray with white veins) has been used for the floor, in combination with the white Carrara Marble that gives light to the walls of the small room. Asiago red marble spots the space.
Simple marble slabs are used also in the main elements such as the washbasin, thermo-stone radiators, mirror panel. The construction system gives value to the quality of natural surfaces.
Main elements of the project are designed as a system of independent pieces that can be positioned and adapted easily to different spaces in size and features.
The project includes two types of fittings: free standing elements, as the sink and radiator, modular elements that organize a technical wall that integrates bathroom fixtures. The wall covering modules consist of slabs of Carrara marble mounted on metal frames.
The system is designed to give surfaces a three dimensional effect and to integrate plants. Few centimeters allow to create shelves and niches around the fixtures and in the shower, where the offset of the marble slabs allows to place a delicate light, which emphasizes the beauty of Carrara marble.
The construction system is conceived as a kit to be inserted into existing environments without the need for special works.
