HOUSE IN LEON
The house is part of an estate without any particular attraction, in the outskirts of León. This conditions the concept of the house: it defines its own interior world and manifests its wish to relate to the far away landscape towards the southwest.
This together with the size of the size of the plot, determines a low ground floor space and cantilevered areas to achieve shaded spaces in the porches to peer out into the faraway landscape.
This causes the house turns away from immediate surroundings. Built using brown flagstones and walls, the house looks into the distance, peering into the Castillian horizon. The house resembles a vegetal formation with roots in the soil, branching towards the sky in search of the sun, embracing the landscape from the top floor.
The exposed concrete and the arid color of the soil in Leon make the house fit in with the local area. The house is defined by two sections where the main bedroom and the children's bedroom are cantilevered. The picture windows frame the faraway horizon as if the facade was a mirror image of its own wishes.
The space in the form of a cube captures and sets the lighting in motion on the different floors. The sequence of visuals is articulated through different diagonal lines to and from the family room. The lighting is fragile or strong, with changing nuances and sensations depending on its path as the day goes by.
The structure is the mail organizing instrument and is part of the final image of the house, constructing and defining the space simultaneously. Geometry, structure and construction come together in this process. The external walls have been given a special texture through timber shuttering and this merges with the white walls in the interior.
The house searches for stimulating events. The light acts in sensorial and perceptive manner, stimulating the senses in a variety of ways, achieving a shape and solving a problem.
