OPERA | DESIGN MATTERS AWARDED IN CHINA
INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION PROMOTED BY THE UIA AND UNESCO
The portuguese architecture office OPERA | Design Matters, directed by José Soalheiro, was awarded by the International Union of Architects-UIA, UNESCO, and Creativersal, with an honorable mention by the architectural design in the Residential Category, within the framework of the international architecture competition for MOLEWA in Ruichang China, at Mont Lu, a world heritage site.
The contest was attended by over a thousand architects from 40 countries. The 1st prize was not awarded to any of the competing projects.
The award ceremony of the competition is scheduled on July 22, 2015, in the storied Great Hall of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing, Tiananmen Square, which will be attended by the Chinese Minister for Development, the President of the International Union of Architects and the President of UNESCO.
The project main goal was to minimize the construction impact and to transform it in a pretext for the rising of a garden, which can be used as public and private within this new Flower city.
The project takes on the intervention as a “Garden” carven by modelling the ground, inspired by the tea fields “Jianbang”, province of Shaanxi, international reference recognized by its unique beauty.
The aim is to potentiate the Plot value by its proximity to the “Flower Ocean” assuming an accomplice and privileged dialogue.
The result is an organic construction under a green mantle transforming every roof and path into a outdoor living area. The whole plot is a garden with variable heights that can also be used as a viewpoint to the Flower Ocean Park.
