The two residential buildings are the result of a firm decision, a modern answer to the functional and aesthetic design requirements. The projects become a spatial and programmatic model – actually a housing standard, capable to answer a local environment and a very limited budget.
The 35 residential units are assembled into two constructions and have a cost per sqm of only € 320. The basic housing unit is designed and sized for housing a family of two, three or four members and has an area reaching from 25 to 50sqm. A sustainable shelter is produced, a shell that can accommodate the predicted low-income social category.
We aimed a clear and rational architecture, with pure functional and spatial patterns, and a maximal actual dwelling area by creating a very compact circulation. The Sreten Dudic and Novo Naselje settlements, both in Valjevo, answer to the specific locations and are different in physical, visual and functional structure.
Yet they result from a programmatic assembly of essentially the same architectural elements.
Social Housing Building in Sreten Dudic Settlement
Two symmetrical sections with independent communication cores are linked and become a compact and simple unit. Within the passive volume with gray rounded edges, the interplay of openings and shadow becomes the most prominent feature.
The building is lifted above ground to which it seems connected only by light stairs: an anchored ship, remaining for a longer time and always with new passengers. The lifting allows both protection and an independent access for the ground floor units. The high level of underground water determined the creation of an open basement.
It becomes an airy bonus room for an open covered parking, drying laundry... Housing as “a package” for life can be read at all levels.#socialhousing
