MULTIPURPOSE MUNICIPAL HALL
Rehabilitation of the old school of a small Castilian village to transform it into a multipurpose Municipal Hall.
The old school was a single-room building made of adobe walls and covered in wood and with a small background. The poor conservation conditions advised that it must be demolished to recreate the same diaphanous space and with the same volume, but with a different use, a meeting room for the younger people of the village.
The interior is treated in a very simple way to give the greatest sense of spaciousness to a space of reduced dimensions: a plinth surrounds the whole perimeter, integrating the glazed windows with the woodwork and the OSB wood panels, emphasizing the inclined roof. The wide U-Glass windows allow a lot of diffused natural light, while illuminating the street at night, highlighting it among the neighboring constructions, and at the same time it´s integrated in the surroundings because of it´s dimensions and volume.
La antigua escuela era un edificio de una sola sala de muros de adobe y cubierta de madera entre medianeras y con un pequeño patio posterior. El pésimo estado de conservación aconsejó que se demoliese para volver a crear el mismo espacio diáfano y con el mismo volumen, pero con un uso diferente, una sala de reunión para los jóvenes del pueblo.
El interior se trata de una manera muy sencilla para dar la mayor sensación de amplitud a un espacio de dimensiones reducidas: un zócalo envuelve todo el perímetro, integrando los huecos acristalados con las carpinterías y los panelados de madera OSB, haciendo destacar la cubierta inclinada a un agua. Los amplios paños de U-Glass permiten que entre abundante luz natural difusa, a la vez que ilumina la calle por la noche, haciendo que el edificio destaque entre las construcciones vecinas a la vez por sus dimensiones se integra en el entorno.
