Sola Town Hall Report
Understand the building as a landmark. This is because many reasons. The city of Sola has no unity or structure (the buildings are spread freely all over the territory). Thus, there is no ability to represent the citizens, like, for example, could happen in Italy with the “Palazzo Comunale” and its great towers representing the citizens in middle ages, or a central square. The new building, then, tries to become a monument, a landmark, to represent the city and its inhabitants, to symbolize the neighbourhood with a building for the community, the “community edifice”. That is why the austere, rigorous, conclusive and symbolic image designed, is partly coated by the trees, by the nature.
Provide the community, not only with an efficient Town Hall, but with something else. This extra quality will be provided in part by the just mentioned symbolic role of the construction, but also by the extra program and relations created inside the building. On the one hand the new building provides diaphanous and multifunctional areas addressed to free users of the city like the public intermediate 4th floor, the upper terrace or the below ground patio. Moreover, in the upper floors, 5th to 9th, some terraces-corridors are set all along the south, east and west facades. They not only isolate the building but they also create comfortable spaces for workers and users.
