Gloucestershire Country House Estate
Duntisbourne is a 70-acre country estate in Gloucestershire, England. Michaelis Boyd lead the full refurbishment of an existing country house and landscape, including adding a basement and complete internal rebuild. New additions to the estate included an outdoor swimming pool and pool house, and associated landscape works surrounding area. Existing stable buildings were also converted into residential use under the works.
Duntisbourne House is a large private country estate in the English countryside. Michaelis Boyd helped its clients – a couple with four children – to develop and extend an existing estate over a period of five years. It is one of the largest projects the firm has undertaken and the architectural style is quite different to many of the practice’s other projects.
The design of the various buildings on the estate has been carefully considered so as to fit sympathetically within the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst marrying the traditional country house aesthetic with a more modern design approach. Michaelis Boyd helped develop the initial brief with their client, but importantly, have also worked closely with them throughout the duration of this 5-year project to re-interpret and adapt to the changing needs of a growing family. The resulting 11-bedroom country house estate was completed in 2014.
