JASPER MORRISON LONDON STUDIO
This office is located in Shoreditch, East London. The new space was carved from a redundant Victorian stable building and both refurbished and transformed into the London base of the international designer Jasper Morrison for his London studio.
Jasper’s brief asked for a place with ‘SuperNormal’ atmosphere, calm internal space, not overly designed but obviously different.
The site is accessible through a narrow Dickensian alley direct from the street and a nondescript entrance. The ground floor provides a studio for work with the upper floor a residential space.
The brief included a shop where a collection of objects and products curated by Jasper are sold to the public. The shop destination is acknowledged as in the top ten design shop locations in the UK.
The collaboration with Jasper led to a sensitive response to context. Minimal interventions where needed and matched the atmosphere of the existing building. A part of the existing buildings interior was sacrificed to make an urban courtyard to provide a welcome other type of space.
