Fractals are objects or expressions that display self-similarity. Inherent throughout the environment and yet easily created by human means, they blur the boundaries of what is “natural and “man-made”. The artwork captures this simultaneity in the emergence of an organic fractal within a mathematically-generated one. Repeated elements of a large triangle are pushed backward, floating in a seemingly random arrangement that only comes together when viewed from the front.
Much of Leonardo da Vinci’s design inspiration came from observing and reimagining organic mechanisms. He believed that by extracting the underlying order in these, natural and man-made design could be merged. Today we invite you to step “Through the Looking Glass” into the vision da Vinci left as a legacy for the world.
