Jim Thompson’s Home Furnishing Showroom - Bangkok
Jim Thompson’s Home Furnishing Showroom has undergone a transformationwhile maintaining the buildings original heritage and foundations. The concept for this renovation is aimed at promoting beautiful living, and encouraging visiting clients to embrace the use of colours and bold design, which are synonymous with the brand.
“we want the new showroom to not only inspire but to become a destination where interior designers or home owners can come and purchase our amazing products for their homes. Somewhere they know they can come to find something beautiful. We encourage professionals to spend time at the showroom and really make use of the space.”
Previously occupying just one floor, the renovation has enabled the fabric collections to be spread over two extended floors, creating a much larger space dedicated to multiple brands. The new area features a professional workspace where clients and designers are able to fully explore our brands, enabling them to develop ideas and work from the showroom.
In restructuring the showroom, Jim Thompson worked closely with PHTAA Living Design, an innovative group of interior designers and architects dubbed “the young designers”, who gave the project a totally fresh look. PHTAA worked carefully to maintain the buildings original heritage and foundations. The original structure, found in the heart of the metropolis, is full of character, built over 50 years ago it is one of the older buildings in modern Bangkok. This preserved framework provided a blank canvas, allowing the architects to work on adding something modern and contemporary. The PHTAA played with materials to harmonize this concept of “old and new”; for example on the showroom a statement, grey marble wall has been designed as a focal point, while the structure is new, the design references a typical old Thai house wall panel, a nod to the buildings history. PHTAA removed some of the upper floor ceiling to make room for a rotating exhibition space, this void also allows those on the upper floor to look down onto the lower, creatively connecting the two. Whilst rejuvenating the building, they also undertook the huge task of creating wall to wall windows in the outward facing wall, providing floors that are brimming with natural light. The new windows overlook Jim Thompson’s original shop, the surroundings adding further to the sense of heritage, synonymous with the Jim Thompson brand.
For the exhibit, found on the entrance way, strong structure has provided as a art supporter. This space will turn to dynamic area where the temporary exhibition will occur with grey marble feature wall background. Large area as a reception is multipurpose space. Wen there are any events, this space will turn to seminar, meeting space even as party area.
PHTAA’s newly regenerated upper floor displays the multiline collections in a similar format, with in situ rooms dedicated to each brand, allowing visitors to appreciate their differing styles. A large area is dedicated to the bright and adventurous varieties of range, emphasising that decorators need not shy away from using daring designs in their renovations. The ‘conservatory’ is another important feature of this floor, designed to showcase Jim Thompson extensive range of outdoor textiles. Situated against wall-to-wall glass, the room has a realistic feel, accentuating our outdoor capabilities.
Come to the highest floor dedicate to Jim Thompson internal office. Office area designed in industrial contemporary style. Welcoming staffs and visitors with new design at heritage wall. Old brick wall shows the beauty of patina. Pattern of new concrete which remind sense of fabric’s pattern add on as a new layer. Glass wall play a role as protection. We admire the building structure as art piece. The selection of using Jim Thompson’s product who is the specialist of fabric and wall covering with pure materials of industrial revolution age create new sense of atmosphere. As a working space, this kind of furnishing suit for maintenance. In the same way, still show Jim Thompson appearance of strong brand identity. The interior design of Jim Thompson’s office space offer the aesthetic of controversial blending.
